Acne is one of the most common skin conditions in Ireland, affecting both men and women — and it can appear at any stage of life, even into your 40s. Acne vulgaris is typically triggered by hormonal changes and shows up as blackheads, whiteheads and spots on the face, neck, back and chest. For most people it improves by the late teens or twenties, but for some it persists — and severe acne can scar, both skin and confidence.
If over-the-counter products haven't worked, it's worth seeing your doctor — with proper treatment the outlook is generally good, though treatments usually take two to three months to show results. Depending on severity, your plan may include:
