Caring for Your
Child's Health

From routine childhood immunisations to everyday illnesses, we look after your child's health at every stage — with calm, reassuring care for them and for you.

Simple, Safe &
Free at Your GP

Immunisation is a simple, safe and effective way of protecting your child against serious diseases. The risks from these diseases are far greater than the risk of any minor side effect from the vaccine. Routine childhood immunisations are free of charge at your GP under the national programme, and are given here at the clinic by our practice nurse.

Your child needs five GP visits — from 2 to 13 months — to complete their early course of vaccines. Bring your child's vaccination record (passport) to each visit, so every dose is recorded and you have the information when they're older.

Childhood Immunisation
Schedule

The vaccines below are offered to children born on or after 1 October 2024, following the HSE's Primary Childhood Immunisation Schedule.

The rotavirus vaccine (oral drops) cannot be given on or after 8 months of age. You'll need paracetamol on hand for your baby's 2- and 4-month visits.

What the abbreviations mean:
  • 6 in 1 — Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping cough (Pertussis), Hib, Polio and Hepatitis B, in a single injection
  • PCV — Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine
  • MenB / MenC — Meningococcal B and Meningococcal C
  • MMR — Measles, Mumps and Rubella

A further booster (4 in 1 and MMR) is given at 4–5 years of age through the HSE schools immunisation programme, not at the GP. Schedules are updated by the HSE from time to time — always check the current schedule at immunisation.ie, or just ask us at your next visit.

What to Expect After
Vaccination

After their vaccines, your child may have a sore arm or leg, mild flu-like symptoms, or a raised temperature for a day or two. This is normal and usually settles quickly. Keep them comfortable with plenty of fluids, and you can give the correct dose of paracetamol or ibuprofen for their age if needed.

If your child has a very high fever, seems very unwell, or you're worried in any way, contact us — or, outside surgery hours, our out-of-hours partner GP24. See Out of Hours for details.

More Than
Just Vaccines

We're here for the whole of your child's health — not only their immunisations. Bring them to us for the everyday things too.

Common Childhood Illnesses

Coughs, colds, ear infections, tummy bugs, rashes and fevers — seen by a GP who can reassure you or treat when needed.

Unless there's a valid medical reason, we advise that all children receive the complete course of recommended immunisations — an unimmunised child is at risk themselves and can also pass these diseases to others.

Common Questions
From Parents

Are childhood vaccinations free?

Yes — the routine childhood immunisations are free of charge at your GP under the national HSE programme.

What if my child missed a dose?

It's never too late to catch up. The vaccines already given still protect your child, and we'll help you get back on track — just call us to arrange a visit.

What about the 4–5 year booster?

The 4-in-1 and MMR boosters at 4–5 years are given through the HSE schools immunisation programme rather than at the GP.

My child is unwell outside your opening hours — what do I do?

Our out-of-hours partner GP24 can be reached on 01-518 0808. In an emergency, call 999 or 112. See our Out of Hours page for full guidance.
